A Wicked Good Halloween Playlist

Don’t you just love the holidays? It gives you something to look forward to, an excuse to get dressed up and buy a new outfit, cook some of your favorite foods, spend ample amounts of time with your friends and family, and of course, some much needed days off of school and work.

What better way to get in the holiday spirit than by an awesome playlist? (yes, I am that girl that will have Christmas music playing non-stop the day after Thanksgiving)
I compiled a few of my favorite Halloween type songs that you can howl along to! So grab your ghouls and witches for a fright of a night, because no matter what your genre of choice is, I think I got owl of you covered. Muahahahaha!

How to Create a Spook-tacular Care Package

My little sister is away at college and what better way to show her some love than by sending her a great care package!
Care packages are perfect for long distance relationships, siblings in college, friends or family on mission trips, or if you just want to send a pick me up to a loved one (y’all know my love for snail mail, and care packages are no exception!)
I always like to pick a theme for my boxes. This makes it a little bit easier to figure out what to fill it up with and it helps with thinking of ideas on how you want to decorate your box. With Halloween right around the corner, I decided to create a “Boo Box” for my little sister.

Here’s a list of what I put inside:
  • Caramel Apple Lollipops (Might possibly be my favorite fall candy that comes out this time of year!)
  • Amy’s Favorite Candy with a Vampire tag (I made it using Microsoft Publisher and printed it out on cardstock) and attached Vampire Fangs to it.
  • Glow Stick Bracelets (97 cents at Walmart)
  • Pumpkin Carving Kit
  • M&M cookies that I placed in a small Halloween Tin (I found the tin at Walmart for about $3)
  • A broom goodie bag filled with sweet treats (for how to make the broom, click here)
  • Hot Apple Cider packets (**the postal service kinda condemns mailing liquids, so opt for packages of hot chocolate or apple cider)
  • Count Chocula Cereal (only the best chocolate cereal of all time!)
  • Glow in the Dark Vampire Fangs ($1 at Target)
What else you could add:
  • Fall candle (Bath and Body Works usually has their mini ones 3 for $10)
  • Bags of popcorn
  • A fun Halloween mask
  • Halloween Movies (Here’s a few of my favorites: Hocus Pocus, A Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Hotel Transylvania, Young Frankenstein, and Coraline)
Once you fill up the box, it’s time for the fun part (or at least my favorite part), decorating your box! I purchased a 14 by 14 box at Walmart for about 68 cents, I assembled the box then painted the flaps (card board does soak up paint so you will have to paint two or three coats, or you could glue on scrapbooking paper instead). I printed off a few Halloween themed clip art that I found online onto cardstock and cut them out. I modge podged them on the flaps, then drew out cute sayings like, “ghouls night out” or “I am ‘BATTY’ for you” that I went over with Sharpie or paint.

Since I was giving the box to her and it wasn’t going to be tossled and jostled while being shipped, I decided that I still wanted the surprise to be hidden when she opened it.  I bought decorative spider webs (at Target for $1) and stapled them to the box and placed stretchy colorful spiders on top (also at Target for $1).
It turned out pretty fun and cute if I do say so myself! I hope you have as much fun compiling your care package as I did!

Fall Trends for Less

Fall fashion is just another wonderful bonus that comes with crisp weather and leave piles, football games and tailgates, hay rides and pumpkin patches, haunted houses and apple cider…(Ok, you get the picture. I REALLY love fall)
You know what I’m talking about, cozy plaid scarves, game day dresses, boots, faux fur and quilted vests, and layers upon layers of mix- matched patterns. I’m getting giddy just thinking about it! My bank account, however, is not so thrilled by the idea.
I wish I had unlimited funds and could afford all the high end brands and latest trends…..but reality check, I have student loans, have to fill up my gas tank, pay my cell phone bill, put some money away into an emergency fund, tithe, etc. Let’s just put it this way, next month’s paycheck is already evaporating into thin air.
So how do I keep up with some of my favorite fashion trends without getting a credit card or breaking the bank? Easy. I look for similar products at a cheaper cost, and when it comes to make up I look up their dupes to get the same shade for less (or ask, my sorority sister, Chelsea what she's using. She's the queen of makeup and their dupes!).
I thought I’d share a few of my favorite fall trends for less.  A majority of them, of course, come from Target (I swear I don’t live there), which look extremely similar to one of my other favorite stores, J. Crew.
Fall Looks for Less

Now you can fashionably fall into autumn too, without falling into debt!
There are certain items I will splurge on from time to time. If it’s a classic piece or will become a staple item in my closet that won’t go out of style, I say go for quality over quantity. For instance, I had been swooning over a nice pair of cognac leather boots, so I finally caved and got a beautiful pair of Frye boots last Christmas. Let me tell ya, I wear those boots all the time and they go with everything! Plus, they were made to last for years!  Much better than buying a pair of cheap boots you’re not in love with that might only last a year or two.
TEP Tip: A few other things worth splurging on are a nice pair of blue jeans, a classic black dress (every girl NEEDS to own a killer LBD that fits their body type and makes them feel beautiful. Your closet is simply naked without one.), a pea coat, and a trench coat. They are classics so they’ll never go out of style and they’re all staples that you can pair with the latest trends.
So get ready because boyfriend jeans and big sweaters are comfortably in, faux fur vests are still all the rage, leather is better, 70’s floppy hats are making a comeback, and leopard is in fact a neutral.
Know of some other fall trends we can get for less? We'd love to hear them (and may or may not be grabbing our wallets to grab one for our own after you comment below)!

Emily Approved: Chelsea's Fall Beauty Trends

We're a day late to the party, but we are so excited that our favorite month of the year is here!  Today we'll be kicking off all that is October yumminess with Chelsea's favorite fall beauty trends.
Chelsea is a sorority sister of ours and is an Emily proclaimed make-up extraordinaire, so who better to do the job, right?
Take it away, Chels!

Hi, everyone! I’m Chelsea from A Daily Dose of Chelsea
I was thrilled when my two favorite Emilys asked me to write a beauty post specifically for fall!
I’ve been out of my blogging element due to finishing up grad school and job hunting, but I’m back. Now on to the fun stuff!
Fall is the perfect time to transition your beauty products from the hot summer months to the frigid winter temperatures. It’s also the opportune time to try new beauty looks!

Matte Lips
Leave that shimmery lip gloss at home and try something new!
Natural matte lips are office-appropriate, while neon colors stand out on the weekends.
MAC’s Matte and Retro Matte lipstick formulas are sure to please. Their signature vanilla scent and multitude of colors are perfect for everyone! I suggest trying “Heroine.” Its bold purple color can be sheered out by patting it on with your finger if you are sold on the shade.
If you are more of a drugstore girl (like myself), Wet n Wild and Maybelline have you covered when it comes to quality matte lipsticks. Check your local drugstore to find Maybelline’s Color Sensational Creamy Mattes or Wet n Wild’s Mega Last Lip Color. I love to layer Wet n Wild’s Sugar Plum Fairy and Cherry Picking for the color below.

Bold Brows
Bold brows: Please, please, I am begging you; get rid of those tweezers! Your brows and your face will thank me later. Your brows should be natural looking, not drawn in. I am partial to Anastasia Beverly Hill’s DIPBROW Pomade. The lightweight mousse-like pomade stays put ALL DAY LONG and looks natural when applied using an angled brush and spoolie.

NYX Eyebrow Gel is going to give you the same look for half the price! Its waterproof formula will last all day and the plastic tube is perfect for travel while you go out of town for fall break.
Add a little color
With the changing of the leaves comes the end of a golden summer tan (from a bottle, of course!). Just because the days are shorter doesn’t mean you have to lose all of your color. A lighter bronzer with add a glow to your face and chest even when the sun isn’t shining. Benefit Hoola Bronzer is a classic choice. Its neutral coloring works on almost any skin tone without making you look orange.
A very similar product is NYC’s Sunny Bronzer. I use this bronzer as a face powder in the summer months and bronzer in the fall and winter months. Just like Hoola, its neutral tones won’t make you look like an Oompa Loompa. The best part? Its $3 price tag!
We want to know, what fall trends are you looking forward to?

Thanks so much for stopping by Chelsea!  Everyone be sure to keep up with Mrs. Chelsea and get all of her fab makeup tips and tricks!

Shake It Off

I have a confession.

I am obsessed, and I mean fan girl-ing hard, over Taylor Swift’s new song “Shake it Off.”

If it didn’t just get stuck in your head right this instant, I might think something is wrong with you, like clinically wrong with you. (Because the haters gonna hate, hate, hate…SHAKE IT OFF, SHAKE IT OFF UH UH). My friends and I will randomly burst into song; and every time it comes on the radio you best believe I am belting it at the top of my lungs.

Maybe it’s the upbeat chorus, maybe it’s the quirky music video, but I think for me, it’s the positive message and how it puts me in a good mood every time I hear it. It reminds me to not sweat the small stuff, not to make mountains out of mole hills, and most importantly to shake off any negativity. How many times a day do we need to be reminded of that!

We get so caught up in what other people say about us and if they like us or not. It’s a fact that 10% of people won’t like you. You can’t please everyone.

“All men will hate you because of me. “ –Luke 21:17

So live for one audience alone, your God, and He will be your vindicator. He is the only one you need to please, because well, the haters gonna hate, hate, hate…

To help remind you to just let some things go, we made these “shake it off” prints that you can post wherever your heart’s desire! Post one in your room, on your desk, in your binder at school, wherever you need a friendly reminder to take a breath and refocus on the important things.
