Breakfast at Tiffany's Costume

I can't believe its already November, can you?!

I thought I'd give a little recap of what I wore for Halloween this past weekend. Of course I modeled my outfit after one of my favorite movie characters and celebrity icons, Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's (if you've never seen it, I'd highly recommend it!)

I didn't want to go the traditional route with the black dress, pearls, and crown (as fabulous as it is, I feel like that has been a little overdone and didn't want to be one out of 100 Audreys on Halloween), instead I wanted to go another iconic route.

This is one costume you can easily imitate from the movie (and one of my favorite scenes!) All you need is a large white button down shirt, leggings, sleep mask and purple tassel earrings!

I ordered the mask and tassel earrings from Kelley Hughes Designs shop on Etsy and I couldn't have been happier with how they looked! And a fun bonus is that this mask is now an adorable addition to my nightstand. 

Here's how my outfit turned out! (George wasn't too happy to be 'cat' in the picture, if you couldn't tell) I got tons of compliments, plus my outfit was super comfortable!

Classy in the Cubicle: Halloween Work Attire

Just because I’m an “adult,” (I use the term adult loosely since I still constantly ask my mom how to file my taxes and if anything ever  goes wrong with my car, my motto is “keep calm and call dad”) doesn’t mean I can’t get dressed up for Halloween, even if I do have to go to work.

I know what you’re thinking, how can you show up to work in a costume and it still be remotely professional?

I’ll tell you and give you a few ideas on how to remain classy in the cubicle, while still remaining festive.

Here’s the trick.

Wear what you would usually wear to work! Pencil skirts, dresses, and blouses are all perfect bases for any classy Halloween costume. All you need to do is jazz them up a bit with some colorful tights, nail polish, and some ears or a hat that you can pick up just about anywhere this time of year!

I wouldn’t go as far as face paint or dramatic make up, but if you need to meet with a client or have a meeting that day, you can easily take off your ears or hat and continue your day like any other (just make sure to pack a hairbrush to tame any flyaway hairs). 

Depending on your work place, you can determine what outfits you think are appropriate or not. Since Halloween has landed on a Friday this year, I know many work places that tend to be more lenient on dress codes (blue jean Friday anyone?) so have fun and be creative with your costume, and most importantly, don’t forget to bring in some sweet treats for your coworkers tomorrow!

Pumpkin Seed Recipe

Between work, going to my little sister’s soccer games this weekend, and doing piles upon piles of laundry, I was finally able to carve my pumpkin last night! (if you want to see how my pumpkin turned out, follow me on Instagram!)

One of the hardest (not to mention messiest things) about carving a pumpkin is getting all the seeds out. It’s slimy, cold, and there is a ton of it. What are else are you supposed to do with this goop than throw it away?

Stop what you are doing right now!

You are about to throw away perfectly good pumpkin seeds!

Pumpkin seeds are a good source of fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. They contain Vitamin E, Vitamin K, copper, manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and selenium, along with some other great health benefits (basically this is one Halloween snack you won’t feel guilty indulging on!)

A new tradition I started with my family two years ago was flavoring and toasting the seeds. There are several different recipes you can find online, or you can even experiment with a few of your own favorite seasonings!

Sweet & Spicy Pumpkin Seeds
1 egg white
1/4 cup natural cane sugar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
scant 1/2 teaspoon fine grained sea salt
1 cup fresh pumpkin seeds

Preheat oven to 375. In a medium-sized bowl whisk together the egg white, sugar, cayenne and salt. Add the pumpkin seeds and toss well. Drain off any excess egg white (using a strainer) and place seeds in a single layer across a baking sheet. Bake for about 12 minutes or until seeds are golden. Sprinkle with a bit more sugar and cayenne pepper when they come out of the oven. Taste and season with more salt if needed.

Makes one cup.

If you’re having a pumpkin carving party, toasting everyone’s pumpkin seeds in your favorite seasonings and putting them in little bags for everyone to take home at the end of the night is a great (and cheap!) party favor!

A Wicked Good Halloween Playlist

Don’t you just love the holidays? It gives you something to look forward to, an excuse to get dressed up and buy a new outfit, cook some of your favorite foods, spend ample amounts of time with your friends and family, and of course, some much needed days off of school and work.

What better way to get in the holiday spirit than by an awesome playlist? (yes, I am that girl that will have Christmas music playing non-stop the day after Thanksgiving)
